Canonical has just announced that Ubuntu
12.04.3 LTS (Precise Pangolin) has been officially released for its
Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products.
Ubuntu releases are always on time, but this latest version arrived with a small delay of just one day. According to the developers, Ubuntu 12.04.3 contains an updated kernel and X stack for new installations on x86 architectures.
“As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated
installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to
be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and
corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining
stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.”
“Kubuntu 12.04.3 LTS, Edubuntu 12.04.3 LTS, Xubuntu 12.04.3 LTS, Mythbuntu 12.04.3 LTS, and Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 LTS are also now available,” reads the official announcement.
If you are a regular user of the Ubuntu 12.04 operating system, then you won’t have to do anything. Just update the operating system as usual and you will get the latest version installed.
On the other hand, if you are still using the ancient Ubuntu 10.04 LTS version, you will be offered an automatic upgrade to 12.04.3 via Update Manager.
All Ubuntu flavors have undergone this update, including Kubuntu 12.04.3 LTS, Edubuntu 12.04.3 LTS, Xubuntu 12.04.3 LTS, Mythbuntu 12.04.3 LTS, and Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 LTS.
A number of features have been integrated in this latest version of Ubuntu, including new options to customize Unity's look and behavior, quicklist support for Nautilus so it can support the Unity launcher, enhanced support for ClickPad devices on Laptops, improved Unity HUD, and much more.
Also, the default music player has been switched to Rhythmbox, LibreOffice has been updated to 3.5.4, GNOME has been updated to version 3.4.2, and the IcedTea Java plugin is no longer installed as part of the ubuntu-restricted-addons.
